Volunteer Opportunities

Becoming a nursing volunteer abroad may be one of the most rewarding travel experiences you’ll ever have. Volunteering in nursing abroad will provide you with opportunities to not only utilize your medical training and gain exposure to new specialties, but also help people in very desperate need. International nursing volunteers not only address medical needs through their placements, they can also help improve local understanding and treatment of health conditions as well as encourage social and economic development.

Are you hoping to become, or are training to become an emergency ambulance technician or paramedic? Are you looking for experience in trauma care overseas? We have projects in Europe that give you the unique opportunity to work with emergency medics.

You will spend your time delivering medical care in rural communities caring for the people in a region where the closest adequately provisioned hospital is 4 hours away. Bulgarian, Romanian, Roma, or Russian language skills would be extremely helpful, but not a prerequisite. On this project, you will have the opportunity to work alongside the community doctors as well as practice your skills in an environment where modern technology is not available. This placement is very different to life in most first world countries. You will experience new cultures while helping those in need and assisting in training local medical professionals in new and updated techniques.

We are accepting volunteer applications for placement as experienced General Practitioners who would like to spend time in Europe mentoring primary health care workers and teaching generic primary care skills in impoverished regions. Some of the project areas are more than 4 hours away from a properly equipped hospital, hence volunteers need to be competent in dealing with medical conditions and emergencies without the use of modern equipment. We are mainly looking for GPs with 5+ years of experience, OR who already have experience of training or of overseas work. Placements are a minimum of 14 days in the project, travel insurance and detailed pre-placement briefing and literature are provided. Volunteers generally bear their own travel and subsistence costs.
